According to Lewis (1937, vol. 1, 89) Grange House 'occupies the site of Grange abbey (said to have been founded by St. Cear, who died in 679), and includes part of the ancient walls'; however no such foundation is listed by Gwynn and Hadcock (1988). Grange House is modernised 3-bay, 2-storey gable-ended house with recent extension to rear; no apparent features of ancient character. Local tradition agrees with Lewis that house built on site of abbey. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
