Church (in Ruins) — Coolduff

Near SW corner of graveyard (CO083-055003-); ruins of parish church of Kilmurry. Rectangular gabled structure (25.85m E-W; 6.8m N-S), walls stand to near full height, partially ivy-clad. Entered through door, off-centre to W, in S wall; surround is recent cement repair; Brunicardi (1913, 47) suggests original door had 'pointed' arch. Interior lit by very ruinous window ope near E end of S wall; Brunicardi (ibid.) suggests this had single pointed light. Another much-ruined window near W end of N wall; central window in W gable with single ogee-headed light; window also in centre of E gable with double ogee-headed light covered by hood moulding. SE corner close to collapse. Interior covered with burials, the earliest headstone noted dated 1792. Church reported in ruins in 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 177) and was still in ruins in 1700 (Lunham 1909, 174). In 1995 church stripped of ivy and walls repaired and repointed by Cork County Council.
