What is recorded here

Under the tree-lined road leading W from Tooms. The road collapsed in March 2005 and revealed an earth-cut souterrain cut into shale. The roof of the souterrain appeared to be just below the level of the road. For safety reasons the souterrain was filled in with fine gravel. In 1993 a possible souterrain (CO082-107----) was recorded c. 30m to the E and immediately S of the road but it has not been established whether it is part of this souterrain or a separate one. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
