Two features were discovered during archaeological monitoring of topsoil removal in advance of a housing development to the E of Castlemartyr; these were excavated in 2004. One feature comprised an irregular pit (D c. 0.4m) containing charcoal and some Neolithic pottery. The second feature consisted of a rectangular spread (1.85m x 1.1m; D 0.14m) of charcoal, possibly the result of in situ burning. Deep ploughing is likely to have truncated the upper levels of the features exposed and any other associated features. Two other features were also discovered but excavation confirmed that these were of modern date. (Lane 2007b, 47)
