On the E side of St Anne's graveyard (CO074-03301-) in Shandon; Skiddy's Almshouse, built in 1718-19 on the N side of Green Coat Hospital (C-shaped 3-storey building demolished in 1955, see photo in Craig 1982, 205). It is named after Stephen Skiddy, a wealthy Cork-born wine merchant who in 1584 set up a charity to care for the elderly poor in Cork City. It is a rendered, 2-storey building with an attic and a hipped roof. A characteristic feature of the building is an open loggia on two inward-facing sides. In 1966 it was saved from demolition by the Cork Preservation Society, following widespread opposition: https://www.rte.ie/archives/2016/0503/785794-skiddys-house/. It is now in residential use.
