In graveyard (CO074-04001-); church of St. Nicholas referred to in charter made during reign of Gregory, Bishop of Cork, who died in 1186; valued in papal taxation of 1302-6 but not heard of again until 1569 when leased to John Bathe (Bradley et al. 1985, 73-5). In ruins by 1639 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 294-5); rebuilt 1720; present church built 1849-50 when remains of three earlier structures were discovered (Bradley ibid). Limestone font, removed here from St Peter's church (CO074-03405-), in three parts: circular basin, shaft and base; bowl inscribed "RW IN 1664".
