Found in 2001 during monitoring of topsoil removal in advance of the construction of the N25 Youghal Bypass. The damaged remains of the fulacht fia were excavated within an area measuring 13m E-W and 8m N-S. An oval trough (2.3m E-W; 1.9m N-S; D 0.55m) was uncovered under a spread of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. Three circular stake-holes cut the base of the trough. A radiocarbon sample recovered from the fill of the trough produced a calibrated date of cal. BC 1410-1120. (Noonan 2003a, 34-5)
