According to Gwynn and Hadcock (1988, 357), 'a hospitium or Maison Dieu' was founded at Youghal in 1185 and had become a dependency of Bath Priory by 1306. A lazar house (CO067-095----), which was connected with it, stood on a hill above it. The location of this hospital is unknown. (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 357; Lee 1996, 36; Hayman 1879b, 38)
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
