On N side of Youghal, containing ruins of Dominican friary known as North Abbey (CO067-030002-). 1842 OS 6-inch map shows rectangular yard (c. 8m NW-SE; c. 60m NE-SW); a large recent extension has been added to NW. Contains many 18th and 19th century inscribed headstones, dating from 1732 (O'Shea 1988; Coleman 1921-5)), though Hayman (1855, 333-4) records 'tomb-stone' with date of 1550 as oldest in yard. Still in use. In late 1980s a FAS scheme recorded inscriptions here.
