'Many years ago an underground pasage, and an underground beehive-shaped chamber, were discovered a quarter of a mile south of Rathcanning fort' (CO066-01001-) (Barry 1897, 41-2). Exact location not known. Recorded also by McCarthy (1977, 306-7), under townland of Rathcanning. According to Barry the ogham stone (CO066-009---) came from this souterrain though in later reports (Macalister 1945, ; O'Kelly 1945, 19-20) it is associated with a souterrain (CO066-01002-) within Rathcanning fort.
