Discovered in 2001 during archaeological test-trenching in advance of the construction of the N8 Glanmire-Watergrasshill Bypass. A large spread (24m N-S; 16m E-W) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was uncovered during topsoil removal. A sample of charcoal from the spread yielded a radiocarbon date of cal. BC 1603-1551 (2 sigma) (NRA). The monument had been disturbed by extensive agricultural activity and no evidence of a trough was uncovered. (Halpin 2003b, 55; 2004a, 1-23)
