The remains of a series of subcircular grain-storage pits were excavated in 2001 in advance of the construction of the N8 Glanmire-Watergrasshill Bypass. The grain-storage pits (max. dims 1.4m; D 1.05m) were located to the W of a Bronze Age house (CO064-167----) in an area where large pieces of five saddle querns were found. According to the excavator (Sherlock 2003c, 45), a number of the pits had large saddle quern fragments situated towards the base of the fill. Oak charcoal from one of the grain-storage pits and a nearby post-hole were dated to between 1599 and 1431 cal. BC and between 1525 and 1429 cal. BC, respectively while hazel charcoal from another pit was dated to between 1427 and 1261 cal. BC (Sherlock 2005b, 34). A final phase of activity at the site was represented by a shallow pit. Ash charcoal from this pit was dated to between 199 and 45 cal. BC (ibid.). (Sherlock 2003c, 45; 2005b)
