What is recorded here

Power (1917, 24) mentioned a great stone fort known as 'Cathair Mor' but noted that it had completely disappeared and that the name was applied to a field of some 15 acres [6ha]. A 10-acre [4ha] field known as 'Cathair Mor' was identified from local information but there are no visible remains of any cashel in it. The precise location of this possible cashel is not known. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
