What is recorded here

This record was formerly classed as an 'unclassified castle', however, based on the field inspection report, it was decided that the classification 'earthwork' would be a more appropriate term. The classification was changed accordingly. The field inspection report notes 'vague suggestions' of an E-W bank (Wth 1.3m; max. H 0.2m) and 'suggestions of a bank parallel to the first, 16m further on to the NE…further earthwork traces corner sharply from the first bank running SW towards Leamlara tower house (CO064-109001-). The earthwork is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 2 East and South Cork' (1994, 229) under the entry (no. 5581) for the tower house. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
