What is recorded here

In level pasture, road 50m to NW; sub-circular area (c. 45m ENE-WSW; c. 50m NNW-SSE) slightly raised above surrounding land and defined by stone-faced vertical edge (H 1m); to E truncated by N-S field fence. Interior densely overgrown with rhododendrons, access not gained. According to Power (1917, 17), contains ruins of 'seana teampuilín' (church marked on all eds OS 6-inch map) (CO064-033002-); he notes that 'the foundations of the building are fairly traceable....some forty-eight feet by twenty-one feet internally' (ibid., 18). According to local information, lower courses of church wall still survive and no gravemarkers visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
