What is recorded here

In rough pasture, on high ground with commanding view all round. Depicted as hachured oval enclosure (50m E-W; 65m N-S) on 1842, 1903 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps; external fosse shown on 1903 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; concentration of stone in area of site. Visited by OPW Oct. 1967 prior to Land Project Works; recorded circular enclosure defined by substantial earthen bank (int. H 6ft) with external fosse (D 7ft; Wth (at base) 12ft). According to Hartnett (1939, 286), was double ramparted with outer bank replaced by modern fencing to E and W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
