What is recorded here

In pasture. Circular area (diam. 27m) defined by single earthen bank (H 2.6m) with external fosse (D 1.5m). According to Hartnett (1939, 48), remains of outer bank were traceable, especially to W and SW, with substantial '20 foot section' surviving to ENE measuring '5 feet high and 6 feet wide'; 'there are entrances at the NE and SW'. Interior saucer-shaped; possible souterrain (8993) in E half. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
