Apparently found in association with another ogham stone (CO061-079003-) when a flour mill was demolished c. 1840 on the site of a possible ringfort (CO061-079001-). The stone was broken before purchase by the Royal Cork Institution (Macalister 1945, 120); now in the British Museum (Macalister 1906a, 167). The stone (4ft 81/2in; 10in x 6in) is inscribed on two sides but the linking portion is broken off. Macalister (1945, 120, no. 123) gave the inscription as MAQI-BRI..... CELI ALACA... The 1842 OS Name Books mention a third ogham stone in this context but Hartnett (1939, 75) thinks the third stone is actually the lost fragment of this stone. (Power et al. 1997, no. 7983)
