What is recorded here

In pasture, on NE-facing slope; on low rectangular terrace (13.1m E-W; 6.7m N-S; max. H 1.2m) raised to compensate for hillslope. Plan of church defined by low sod-covered walls. According to Hartnett (1939, 181), S edge defined by line of upright slabs projecting above ground level; other walls were low and sod-covered, with possible opes in centre of W wall and near W end of N wall; W wall appeared to continue to N and S beyond corners of church, probably remains of N-S field fence shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map but since levelled. Exact nature of site unclear. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
