What is recorded here

In pasture, on SW-facing slope. Depicted as hachured roughly circular enclosure (c. 50m N-S; c. 40m E-W) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Arc formed by earthen bank (H 1.3m) survives NE->WNW. Laneway running E-W defines enclosure on N side; straight length of field fence joins end of arc at NE to laneway to N. Bank stone-faced internally and externally; now partially collapsed. Gap (Wth 2.8m) in bank to SW. Interior (39m E-W; 38.5m N-S) used as feeding area for cattle; surface badly cut up. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
