What is recorded here

At end of laneway approaching from NW; small rectangular area (c. 40m E-W; c. 20m N-S) with ruins of parish church of Dysert (CO054-031003-) against S edge. Defined to N by earthen field fence, elsewhere by low bank. No gravemarkers noted. Large depression immediately N of church appears to be result of quarrying. On 1842 OS 6-inch map this church is shown in centre of larger rectangular graveyard; further rectangle to S, partially forested, defined by broken line. Forested area to E of enclosure marked 'Site of Grave Yard'. Within possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (CO054-031001-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
