What is recorded here

In pasture, on level patch of ground, on S-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular, bivallate enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1904 OS 6-inch map; limekiln incorporated into W bank on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (55.5m N-S; 53m E-W) defined by low rise (max. H 1.2m) to N, E and S. External fosse visible as shallow depression to N and SW, most clearly visible where it disappears into N-S field boundary at W side. Low rise outside fosse to N may be evidence for counterscarp or second bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
