What is recorded here

In pasture. Depicted as single standing stone on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps and named 'Dallaun' and 'Gallaun', respectively; as pair of standing stones on 1940 OS 6-inch map. Stones removed; no visible surface trace. Hartnett (1939, 79) recorded two stones; 'NW stone is 40ins high by 30ins by 9ins...other stone is 20 yards SE of this and is 38ins by 13ins by 15ins'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
