McCracken (1965, 132) lists a charcoal-burning ironworks in Mogeely townland which was 'owned by Sir Thomas Morris in 1593.' The exact location of this ironworks is unknown and it could be on that part of Mogeely Lower that extends into OS 6-inch map 37.
