Structure named 'Dromor' shown in this area on Jobson's map (c. 1589); Down Survey (1655-6) barony map shows townland called 'Dromore Castle' but does not depict a structure. Exact location of Dromore Castle uncertain. Berry (1893, 23) places it on W side of Clyda River between Dromore Lodge and Dromore House, i.e. in Dromore North townland; Healy (1988, 334-5), following local information, places it in same area, on Dineen's land, c. 1.6km NW of Old Dromore House, on high ground overlooking Clyda River valley. Castle of the O'Callaghans (Ó Murchadha 1985, 68).
