At crossroads; T-shaped with stem to E. Entered at E end, interior lit by slender pointed lancets with switchline tracery. Mosaic reredos behind altar at W end. Bellcote atop E gable rising from narrow stone breakfront framing front door; stone plaque over door inscribed 'MAY 1843'. Similar inappearance to nearby Grenagh church (9594). 1842 OS 6-inch map shows structure to N of crossroads in adjacent townland of Monaparson named 'Athnaleanta R.C.Chapel (Old)' which no longer survives; it was described in 1845 as 'an oblong thatched building in very bad repair, capable of holding about 500 persons' (Uí Mheiscill 1990, 141).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
