In pasture, with extensive view to S; upright stone (H 2.5m; 0.6m x 0.3m) with inscription cut along SE edge starting 0.45m from ground to near full height of stone; inscription weathered and defaced by cattle rubbing andhone scores. Macalister (1945, 62, no. 57) gave inscription as TRENU MAQIMUCOI QRITTI; due to defacing of lower scores, first word given as TTGENU by Brash (1879, 138); MacNeill (1909, 361) gave first word as TRENO, areading McManus (1991, 179) considered 'possible'. In Sept. 1985 cattlegrid laid around stone by OPW; short excavation of circular strip 1m widewith its inner edge 1m from centre of stone revealed nothing except N-S cultivation furrows and ploughmarks (pers. comm. C. Manning). Second oghamstone (7964) lies c. 40m to N in next field. Burnfort ogham stone (7965) found c. 900m to SE. (Power et al. 1997, no. 7965)
