What is recorded here

In pasture, near top of hill on SE-facing slope. Indicated on 1842 and 1905 OS 6-inch maps as slight curve in N-S field boundary; curve hachured NE->SE on 1935 OS 6-inch map. Field boundary levelled; saucer-shaped, circular area (20m N-S; 20m E-W) survives, defined by low rise (ext. H 0.17m), which survives best to SE and S. Interior raised on SE side to compensate for hillslope; W side of interior slopes down to SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
