What is recorded here

In pasture, on steep NNE-facing slope. Roughly circular area (30m E-W; 28m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.7m). Numerous cattle gaps through bank. Entrance (Wth 3.2m) to E. Interior raised on N side to compensate for hillslope. Two linear depressions, one in southern quadrant (L 5m; Wth 2m; D 0.4m) and second running from centre towards NE (L 12m; Wth 2.2m; D 0.4m), appear to result from digging; remains of spoil heap survives to E of southern depression. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
