What is recorded here

In farmyard. Removed; no visible surface trace. OS Field Book of 1839 gives 'a large stone, about 6ft high and about 15in thick, about 16ft in girth.' (Grove White 1905-25 vol. 3, 331). Broken 'when the field in which it stood was tilled' some years prior to 1908 (ibid.). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
