St Laserians Well — Mullaghroe North

In rough grazing, just outside NE angle of burial ground (14610). Well covered with low concrete structure; opening to E with gate. According to Broker (1937, 35), 'Hooded in 1904 by Rural District Council at the instance of Daniel O'Connor, poet and mason'. Rounds, starting at Saint's Stone (13931), occur on July 25th after mass in burial ground. Bowman (1934, 268) noted rounds on July 25th and Good Friday; also 'the "pattern"...held on the Sunday before July 25th'. Saint referred to locally as St Latiaran, a sister of Iníon Buí (see 13982) and Lasair (Ó Ríordáin 1986, 33). Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 89) noted mostly women attending well where all kinds of diseases were reputedly cured; he adds that there used to be a trout in the well'.
