What is recorded here

In pasture, on W-facing slope, above steep S-facing slope down to River Funshion. Circular area (25m E-W) enclosed by heavily weathered earthen bank (int. H 0.8m), worn due to animal activity; intervening fosse NE->SSE; outer earthen bank (H 0.8m) NE->SE which survives as scarp SSE->NW. Break in bank to NNE (Wth 2.2m) and SSE. Interior slopes down to W; slight scarp exists inside and concentric with W bank where interior raised to compensate for hillslope. Enclosure partially overgrown with bushes and briars. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
