On W side of road, at base of tree. Well now consists of dry depression with roughly built wall to rear. No longer in holy use. An old man informed Grove White (1905-25, vol. 2, 195) 'that he remembers to have seen hundreds of people paying rounds on 9th March between 6am and 9pm; now only very few go there. They came for all kinds of ailments. They drank at the three corners of the well and also bathed their faces. In the time of his father, people came on 8th March, and stayed until 10th March, remaining all night.' According to local information, well removed to this location from Killuragh (14009) after landlord built walled garden around it. O'Reilly (1987, 129) tells similar tale but states that well in Killuragh was removed to site opposite Monanimy Castle (14368) the present location of St Nicholas' well (14023).
