Rectangular area (c. 20m x c. 10m) indicated by broken line on 1842 OS 6-inch map; hachured fosse SW->NW shown to W of site of castle on 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. No visible remains of castle; recent farm buildings have been constructed on site. Photograph taken 1905 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, opp. 77) shows stumps of masonry here. Smith (1750, 319) refers to 'Drumdowne, a ruined castle of the Barrys'. Castle passed to Sir Philip Percival who destroyed it in mid-17th century to prevent it falling to his enemies (Grove White ibid., 77).
