What is recorded here

In pasture, on gentle S-facing slope, above sharp fall of ground down to stream bed. 'Traces' of ringfort, levelled in early 1970s, were still visible when souterrain (CO024-04902-) was discovered in interior (Cleary 1987, 155). No visible surface trace of site. Cropmark of circular enclosure visible in aerial photograph (GSIAP, R527) shows bank and external fosse, truncated on N side by field boundary. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
