What is recorded here

In pasture, on N-facing slope. Circular area (52m E-W; 50m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.42m; ext. H 1.9m); external fosse survives as slight slope down to base of bank. Break in bank to SSE, SSW and NNW. Interior raised on N side to compensate for hillslope. On 1842 OS 6-inch map second hachured bank to N and E, concentric with inner bank, continues to S beyond enclosure, curving in opposite direction. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
