Two-storey house over basement, to S of Newmarket. Named 'Newmarket Ho.' on 1842 OS 6-inch map and 'Newmarket Court' on 1904 OS 6-inch map. Entrance front (E) of 7 bays; 3-bay central recess; central pedimented door. View front (S) of 7 bays, with 3-bay central breakfront adorned by 'superimposed pilaster, niches and an entablature' (Bence-Jones 1978, 225). Hipped roof replaced in 1950s, when parapet wall and dormer windows were removed (O'Shea 1989, 7). Built 1713 by Richard Aldworth and 'thought to be designed by the English architect Rothery' (O'Shea, ibid.). Formerly in use as convent; restored in 1980s as the O'Keeffe Institute; now houses heritage centre and agricultural museum.
