Fish-pond in Ballybeg East

This fish-pond is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000, 545-6) under the entry (no. 14379) for a priory (CO017-059001-). The reference to the fish-pond is as follows: 'Fish-pond (CO017-057003-) in grounds of country house c. 550m to ENE known locally as 'Monk's Pond', may have been associated with priory…'. Also referred to in the same publication under the entry (14849) for the country house (CO017-060----). The reference to the pond in this latter entry is as follows: 'Shallow rectangular stone-lined pond (c. 30m NW-SE; 4.35m SW-NE) to NW, known locally as 'Monk's pond'; overflow outlet at NW end covered by large stone slab. Possibly associated with Clapper bridge (14839) in line to NW.' The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
