In burial ground (14621). Low mound (c. 11m x c. 8m), obscured by overgrowth, may be equated with 'remains of a building which, according to local tradition, was an old church' (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 4, 254). Possibly site of parish church of Bregoge which is listed in Papal Taxation of 1291 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 58-61); described as 'abandoned' in 1694, and 'in ruins' in 1774 (ibid.).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
