Enclosure in Cloonsillagh

In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Subcircular area (81m NW-SE; 67.5m NE-SW) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.9m) with shallow external fosse to W (max. D 0.3m). Bank to NE widens; break (Wth 20m) ENE->E corresponds to small rectangular extension marked at E side of enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map, incorporating lime kiln. Circular depression outside levelled bank may be remains of lime kiln. Bank to SE, incorporated into field fence system, skirted by roadway. Bank S->NW eroded with gaps resulting; incorporated into field fence system; remains of stone facing both inside and out. Some stones noted forming core of bank. Break in bank to SSW (Wth 3m) and NW (Wth 6m). Interior crossed NE-SW by remains of cultivation ridges; rectangular raised area (H 0.3m; 10.5m NW-SE; 4m NE-SW) in NW quadrant; second internal feature, in NW quadrant and to N of first, is semicircular arc (C c. 6.5m; E->W) formed by low rise (H 0.25m), with W arm extending northwards for c. 9m.
