What is recorded here

In pasture, on NNW-facing slope. Depicted as hachured kidney-shaped area (c. 30m NW-SE; c. 10m NE-SW), incorporated into field fence system on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Arc (C 19m) SSE->NW formed by earthen bank (int. H 1.6m) with traces of shallow external fosse on W side. Line of fosse continues NW->SSE in field to E of arc. Horseshoe-shaped depression in W half of interior may be due to quarrying. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
