What is recorded here

In level pasture. Depicted as hachured arc SSE->W in NNE corner of field on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Arc survives SE->NNE (min. diam. 20m N-S), formed by low rise (H 0.15m) with shallow external fosse (D 0.15m). NW side of enclosure cut off from remainder by wide flat-topped earthen field boundary (Wth 4.5m) forming NNW side of field. No visible surface trace of ENE side of enclosure cut off from reamainder by ENE side of field. Fosse (Wth 2m) clearly visible due to concentration of iris plants along its length. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
