What is recorded here

In pasture, on W side of glen. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured raised area (diam. c. 30m) surrounded by fosse on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps. Heavily overgrown, steep-sided, circular mound surrounded by fosse to S, W and N, with sharp drop down to stream at base of glen on E side. Fosse to S wider than to W and N; enclosed farmyard respects fosse on N side. No measurements possible owing to dense overgrowth. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
