Situated on the NW shore of Inishmacowney or Horse Island in the Fergus Estuary. Canon Island is adjacent to SE. A fish weir stretching along the edge of the mud flats up to 200m to NE and c. 70m SW of a pier and comprising vertical posts (diam. c. 0.06m) set c. 0.2m apart, the tops of which become visible after an exceptional Spring tide and remain visible for about an hour until they become submerged again. Described as having ‘side shoots’ away from the main line in places. This is currently undated however many fish weirs in association with these islands have been dated to the medieval period and some associated with Canon Island have been dated to the mid 13th to the early 15th centuries (O'Sullivan et al. 2010, 4). Reported to the National Monuments Service by Fintan Ginnane.
