Situated on a broad headland on the W side of Doonbeg Bay in an area of fertile pasture and tillage.
The view from the site is limited, although a towerhouse named Dromore Castle (CL046-019002-) which was built on the headland can be seen from some distance away. A pier has been built immediately to the northeast of the castle. Sea rocks jutting out 40m from the headland suggest that it may have been larger at one time. Two banks and a counterscarp bank (L 40m) extending in a straight line across the W part of the headland and enclosing an area 50m x 70m were noted and photographed by Markus Casey during an aerial survey (Casey 1999, 214, Clare P4). The remains are not visible at ground level.
