What is recorded here

Situated beneath the cashel (CL042-074004-) on the NW perimeter of the outer rampart of Mooghaun hillfort (CL042-074001-). Detailed survey following clearance of this area in 1994 as part of the Discovery Programme North Munster Project revealed the footing of an earlier wall underneath the cashel and extending slightly to the S and E. The identifiable portion suggested that it was slightly smaller than the cashel (diam. less than 34m). The wall had an outer facing of large stones and a rubble core. This enclosure may have been centred on the platform (CL042-074026-) revealed in this area and may pre-date the hillfort.
