Situated in the SW quadrant of the middle rampart of Mooghaun hillfort (CL042-074001-). A subcircular enclosure (ext. diam. 30.5m) defined by a stone wall (av. Wth 2.25m; av. H 1.9m) comprising an inner and outer facing of limestone boulders with a rubble-core fill. There is an external batter of 0.5m. The entrance, which faces uphill to the NE, is a well-defined gap (Wth 1m). The interior of the enclosure is roughly level, with bedrock protruding in many places. A large rock outcrop is located in the interior W of the entrance gap. The SW perimeter of the enclosure is built directly on top of the hillfort rampart. Excavations in 1992 (Licence no. 92E0093) examined the relationship between the wall of the enclosure and the hillfort rampart. The enclosure was clearly built on the partly dismantled middle rampart of the hillfort, which was used both as a platform and as a quarry for the building material. There was very meagre dating evidence suggesting that it may belong to the early medieval period. Another cashel (CL042-074004-) is on the NW perimeter of the outer rampart of the hillfort.
