Situated at what is now the junction of the Kilrush Road and Carmody Street. An irregular enclosure (max. dim. c. 30m), defined at NE and SE by straight field boundaries and at W by a curved boundary, is visible on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map and is named ‘Grave Yard’. A larger-scale OS town plan of the area of the same date curiously does not include the name ‘Grave Yard’. A street called ‘Garraunakilla’ (Garrán na Cille, churchyard grove), c. 60m to the N may have been named because of an association with the burial ground. There appears to have been unofficial burial here in the 18th and 19th centuries but the date of origin of the burial ground is unknown. One tombstone with the inscription ‘Jane Percy, died Oct 17 1828 Aged 1yr’ was found and erected on Lower Drumbiggle Road (ITM 533548, 677308). A plaque was erected on Garraunakilla in 2013 (ITM 533593, 677272) to commemorate those buried in the area. (Ó Dálaigh 2012, 12, 22; Brennan 2013)
