On a sedilia on the S wall of the nave of Ennis Friary (CL033-082001-). Unearthed in the transept according to Westropp (1895-7, 37), a limestone slab (H 0.9m; Wth 0.39m; T 0.15m) with the following inscription in false relief ….. ‘TEIG O’BR(ien)…/ (Da)NIEL C/ …EIG McT ……/ H Mc M…../ VELLYN/RO GG’. It probably refers to Teig of Ballingown (died. 1578) and his father-in-law, Daniel O’Brien. According to Westropp (ibid.) a 'block' with the O’Brien crest (a dexter arm and hand holding a dagger) was found in association with the slab. This may be the fragment, decorated in false relief, and mounted under the E window in the chancel. (Bradley, Halpin and King 1988, 74, 77)
