Moved from the interior of the S wall of the nave to the exterior of the same wall of Ennis Friary (CL033-082001-) within a porch added in the 20th century. A limestone mural tablet (H 0.53m; Wth 0.69m) with an inscription in Latin commemorating Eugene Considine, dated 1686. The inscription, in incised Roman capitals, reads ‘EUGENIUS CONSIDIN CELEBRIS STIRPS NOMINIS HUJUS PROSE PROQUE SUIS HANC OLIM STRUXERAT URNAM POST DESTRUCTA FUIT CROMVELLI MARTE FURENTIS SED REPARATA PRO JACOBE REGE SECONDO ALTERO AB EUGENIO STIPIS EJUSDEM HIS PROFINDE PRECES LECTOR MORTISQUE MEMENTO ANNO DOMINI 1686’ (Westropp 1895-7, 36). This translates as ‘Eugene Considine brought himself and his descendants this previous monument and urn constructed after it had been destroyed in the war of raging Cromwell and repaired in the reign of the pious King James 2nd by Eugene the Younger for them and for him.
